Real Ear Measurement (REM)
Ensuring your hearing aids are tuned precisely to your ears.
What Is Real Ear Measurement?
Real Ear Measurement (REM) is a gold standard test performed during a hearing aid fitting. It ensures that your hearing aids are not only comfortable, but also delivering sound at the correct volume for your ears.
Unlike general programming based on averages, REM provides a personalized adjustment that matches your unique hearing profile.
How Does Real Ear Measurement Work?
The process is simple and painless:
- A tiny probe microphone is placed in your ear canal.
- Sound is measured naturally near your eardrum (without the hearing aid).
- Your hearing aids are then inserted and switched on.
- Sounds at different volumes are played to check accuracy.
- Your audiologist adjusts the settings until the amplification is perfect.
This test guarantees that speech, music, and everyday sounds are clear and comfortable, without being too loud.
